The HP drive key boot utility is a Smart Component that can create a bootable drive key. Some ProLiant servers support the ability to boot a drive key in the system BIOS. For those products, this Smart Component can also be used to make the drive key capable of flashing firmware or booting floppy images that already exist.
In most instances, the BIOS will usually not be automatically set to your device. If you skip this step, your computer will start regularly from your hard drive instead of getting boot information from your USB device.

Pro tip: If you are using multiple bootable devices that are plugged in simultaneously, your PC might have been booting the wrong drive. In this case, uninstall all of the USB devices unless you need one crucial to your computing.
4. Re-copy the files to your USB device. If you made a bootable flash drive, repeat the steps you took to generate it in the first place. You may have accidentally skipped a step or done something wrong which made the flash drive incompatible.
The Boot Device Options, F9, is known for BIOS boot resources for UEFI including Windows Boot Manager, Network Card. And it also includes Legacy Boot Source like DVD, hard drive, CD, and USB flash drive.
On this page, we introduced what the HP boot menu is and how to access the HP boot menu effectively. According to the HP boot menu keys, you can check device information, run a hardware diagnostic, change boot order, run HP from USB, and even run HP from a Network drive.
I have preloaded windows 8. but now i want to setup windows 7 on my laptop. i made a pendrive bootable. but when i am trying to boot there is now boot file showing on boot option. please help me with screenshots.
Additionally, as the hard drive is most likely partitioned as GPT, you must boot using the UEFI-Internal CD/DVD or UEFI-USB Key/Drive to install Windows on a GPT partitioned disk. Turn on or reboot the computer and tap "F9" or "ESC" and then "F9" when prompted. Highlight the UEFI boot source you are using and press "ENTER".
I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best intallation experience. If you need Windows SP1, please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download and create your own Windows 7 SP1 disc. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (may require DISABLING "Fast Boot" in the BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "FAT32".
9) When the MENU comes up, press the "F9" key and then select the correct UEFI boot source (Internal CD/DVD drive, USB CD/DVD drive, USB Flash drive, etc.)... Press any key to boot CD/DVD, if prompted.
I downloaded Win 7/64 bit onto a CD and am using an external Samsung DVD R/WR loader that has worked great over the years. The internal CD drive hasn't worked for years. I re-start my laptop, press F8 and go to 'boot menu'..two choices..ATAPI CD/DVD ROM drive and Notebook Hard Drive...which is neither of what I have...I go to setup..system config...boot options..CD-ROM Boot/Floppy Boot/Internal Network Adapter Boot (disableed)..
Locate the CD, DVD, or USB flash drive (this might be called Removable Device) in the Boot list. Following the directions on the screen, use the arrow keys to move the drive up so that it appears first in the Boot list. Press Enter. The boot order sequence is now changed to boot from the CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
When it comes to choosing HP USB format tool for Windows 7 64 bit or 32 bit, most users would select HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. It is a Windows-based format utility. It can format any USB Flash drive in FAT, FAT32, or NTFS file systems. Below is the instruction:
Step 1. Connect the flash drive you want to format to a Windows PC and make sure it can be detected successfully. Download HP USB Disk Storage Format utility from the website to your computer.
Windows runs on thousands of computer configurations, but installing a new operating system like Windows 10 on the variety of configurations that exist is another thing. The steps may be different depending on whether your computer has an existing Windows 10 installation on it, an earlier version of Windows on it or a completely different operating system on it, like macOS or Linux. In each case, installing Windows 10 relies on booting from a device other than your main hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD). To do that, you need to access the BIOS or UEFI setup page. Sometimes, this is easier said than done.
The Surface uses a combination of text-driven interface, touch, and mouse input to modify boot settings. Navigate down to the option Configure Alternate System Boot Order using the down arrow key. Hit the Enter key, which will load a submenu; use the up and down arrow to select the first boot device then hit Enter.
For the past 10 years, Apple Intel-based Macintosh computers have supported Windows. Most Macs will allow you to boot from a CD by pressing and holding C on startup. Booting an operating system other than OS X or macOS from a USB drive is a little more involved. We previously covered preparing your Mac for installing Windows 10 using the Boot Camp wizard in macOS. After preparing your boot camp partition and install media, booting from it is as simple as holding down the Option key before you hear the startup chime.
My current furball is a 5-year old laptop with a tiny 20GB SSD plus a boot drive with 5 partitions. Cloning that Win 10 / UEFI mess to a replacement drive when the boot drive has quite a few bad sectors is thoroughly non-trivial! The steps above are a definite help.
However in attempting to boot from the usb I find myself blocked. I click F2 on the load and it shows only one boot option, windows on the hard drive. I am using a Dell Inspiron. So I click on the reset options button and up pops a nice list of options with USB first. So I click on USB, enter the three lines of information including a reference to the live Ubunta USB flash drive I intend to use, and up pops a single line containing the USB directive at the end of the line, but at the beginning is the hard drive again. They are together as single choice. Clicking on F12 during startup shows a boot list with only one option, the hard drive. So I am guessing that whatever file contains the boot options has been maliciously altered. I have been researching the above and must say the situation is complex.
If that is so, there are several solutions. I suspect that your question should have been posted here One solution is to create a boot USB drive like System Rescue CD (use rufus to burn the ISO to your flash drive) then use the instructions in the article to boot the computer and do a boot repair.
You were supposed to be able to change the boot order on a temporary basis. I booted from a bootable DVD (Acronis Recovery environment), and the BDDVDRW CH30L drive did show up under the UEFI devices, second after Windows Boot Manager. (My two other nonbootable USB drives also showed up under Legacy devices.) I used the arrow keys to navigate to the BDDVDRW device and pressed Enter to select it. It started up just fine, and I was able to use the Recovery Software on the disk to look at the USB drives and list which backups were available.
Old version of the Windows USB/DVD download tool formatted USB drive in the NTFS file system when burning Windows 7 image. A computer with UEFI architecture cannot boot from that media in native mode. Therefore, this tools is not suitable for creating an installation flash drive with Windows 7.
You can create a bootable UEFI flash drive with the Windows install image manually. The procedure described below is suitable for advanced users, is performed from the command line and allows you to fully control (and understand) all the steps in the process of creating a bootable USB flash drive.
After the described procedures, you have a bootable USB flash drive to install Windows on a UEFI computer in the native mode. More detailed procedure of Windows installation on computer with UEFI interface will be considered in one of the next article.
Hicould you please put more details Go to f:\efi\microsoft\boot on the USB flash drive and Copy its contents to a higher level (to the F:\efi\boot directory). There is not such directory efi\boot. Should I create this? My structure is like that F: \boot\efi\source\support\upgrade etc.Thank you.
Hi,thanks! I am able to make USB bootable in UEFI mode but once setup of windows 7 starts copying files thenI get error that a file is missing \windows\system32\boot\winload.efi anyone faced this ? Please help to resolve this.
