Computer Software Resources for Asteroid CalculationsCCRS Asteroid Program, Kepler software, and Solar Fire software are computer programs that will calculate the positions for the many asteroids beyond those of Ceres, Pallas, Juno, Vesta, and Chiron. Below are the descriptions from CCRS, Kepler, Solar, Fire, and Janus in response to my inquires. You can contact them directly for more information and any installation or directions that you may need. The program that I use is from CCRS.
1. CCRS Asteroid Program was developed by Mark Pottenger, son of asteroid pioneer the late Zipporah Dobyns. You can only purchase it directly from him and he does not have a website. His email is markpott@pacbell.net. This is a stand-alone program that calculates only the asteroids and the new planets discovered beyond Pluto. It includes a library of over 22,000 asteroids from which you can create your own custom lists. The lists can be sorted alphabetically as well as zodiacally. About 500 asteroids will fit on two pages of print out hard copy. Mark provides regular updates to the program as new asteroids are named. You do not need any other software to run tis program. It is available for both PC and MAC.
Whether your interest is learning astrology, research, advanced techniques, beautiful graphics, or having attractive chart wheels and accurate interpretations, Kepler Software 7 can deliver what you need.
Venus is a special case, because it spaces each successive instance of a given heliacal phase evenly around the zodiac in a 5-pointed star pattern. This 8-year cycle is reflected in another important part of Babylonian astrology, the celestial pentagram of Venus. The Mesopotamian module can plot the pentagram on the wheel, showing where it contacts important chart points over an 8-year cycle. As the basis of the pentagram, you can choose from any of the heliacal phases (morning first appearance, evening first, morning last or evening last) and the pentagram will then show the five points in the zodiac where that phase repeats over the 8-year period.
Combining the Primary Directions + Hellenistic/Arabic/Medieval + Mesopotamian modules, the new Placidus 7 is indeed the ultimate program for ancient astrology. Windows 98 through 10, both 32- and 64-bit. Placidus 7.10 $480
In episode 113 of the podcast I interview Dr. Nicholas Campion of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David about the revival of the practice of astrology in the west in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Nick is the leading historian in the world on the history of astrology in western culture, and he is the author of several books on the subject, including the authoritative A History of Western Astrology, Volume 1 and Volume 2, and more recently Astrology and Popular Religion in the Modern West: Prophecy, Cosmology and the New Age Movement.
Fwiw. This happens regularly in software development, where the peculiarities of one environment will cause problems of one sort and another not seen in another environment. For instance, transient memory leaks. 2ff7e9595c
